"Sophie, owned and loved by
Carolou McCrite" |
If you are looking for a cat that will be a good companion,
a playmate for your children, and a full-fledged member of
the family, then the American Shorthair is the right cat for
you. I think of them as the Golden Retriever of the cat world.
This breed is known for its longevity, robust health, good
looks and amiability with children and dogs.
These beautiful cats have a wonderful easy going personality.
They are not high energy cats like a Siamese or Abyssinian.
Nor are they extremely quiet like the Persian or the Himalayan.
The males are significantly larger than the females, weighing
ten to fifteen pounds when fully grown. Mature females will
weigh between eight and twelve pounds. These cats require
no special care, and are expected to live past fifteen years
of age.
Although the American Shorthair is recognized in more than
eighty different colors and patterns, the most well known
is the classic silver tabby, with dense black markings set
on a sterling silver background. King of Hearts cattery breeds
specifically for this color.
